Don't get consumed or overwhelmed by AI
During a recent interview, Iwas asked my thoughts on AI and I shared this openly: AI is powerful… but from what I can see, some business owners are becoming overwhelmed by it instead of empowered by it.
After 29+ years working in brand and marketing, I’ve noticed something interesting, the people getting the BEST results with AI are not the people trying every new tool every five minutes.
They are the people who:
• Have clarity
• Understand their audience
• Build systems
• Use AI to support strategy, not replace thinking
I'm of the opnion that AI should speed you up, support your creativity and help you become more visible. But without direction, it can also become another distraction. Some of us are trying to run before we can walk!

You do not need:
– 22 AI apps
– Constant trend chasing
– Daily panic posting
– Content with no purpose
But what you DO need, is:
– Clear messaging
– A marketing plan
– Consistency
– Better systems
– Confidence in your brand voice
And sure AI can help shape this but it should not be what you lean into for every marketing activity, if your'e trying to build something authentic to you.
The businesses that will grow over the next few years are not necessarily the loudest online,, they’ll be the ones using AI intentionally whilst still sounding human.
Common Questions I’m Asked About AI and Marketing
Should small businesses use AI for marketing?
Yes, but strategically. AI can help small businesses save time, improve consistency, generate ideas and increase visibility. However, without clear messaging and a marketing plan, many business owners end up creating more noise instead of better marketing.
What are the best AI tools for visibility?
The best AI tools are the ones that support your workflow and help you stay consistent. Tools for content planning, video editing, copy support, analytics and automation can all be useful, but business owners do not need dozens of platforms. Focus on tools that genuinely support your brand and audience.
Can AI improve brand consistency?
Yes, AI can help improve consistency across content, messaging and planning. However, your brand voice, positioning and strategy still need human direction. AI should support your identity, not replace it.
Is AI replacing marketers?
No. AI is changing how marketing is delivered, but strategy, emotional intelligence, creativity and relationship-building still matter. Businesses still need people who understand audiences, storytelling, positioning and long-term brand growth.
